“I paint herring gulls in all their ice-cream-stealing glory as that’s the moment we notice them most: bold, unapologetic, impossible to ignore. It’s also the moment we’re most frustrated with them.

“With this confronting collection I hope to inject a sense of revelry and joy, to soften that conflict, and create a space so we can laugh and appreciate these adaptable, resilient birds before we create a world so hostile to them, that they disappear altogether.”
